Becoming a Foster Carer
What is the process to become a Foster Carer?
The process of becoming a foster carer usually takes around 3-4 months. It involves our social workers getting to know you and your family, as well as conducting background checks and seeking references. You will also receive a full medical check-up. You will be invited to attend a training course called ‘The Skills to Foster’, which provides all the necessary information about becoming a foster carer. Once the assessment is completed, it will be presented to our Fostering Panel for a recommendation. If approved, you will have your own supervising social worker from People Who Foster who you will be in regular contact with.
