Things I Wish I’d Known Before Becoming a Foster Carer

Here’s some advice and top tips from the experience of our carers.

“It is important to understand the advantages and disadvantages involved in proving care to looked after children in terms of the levels of trauma they have experienced. Coupled with a better understanding of children and young people’s behaviour and the impact that trauma has on how they present and how this can affect everyone in the home.”

“Having a good understanding of the legislation and the regulations that you have to follow as a foster carer.” “To expect the unexpected!”

“The amount of paperwork required for foster carers to complete as part of their role, which has increased over the years.”

“Understanding Delegated Authority and what I can and cannot agree to.”
